01 — Overview
Our commitment to your family's privacy
BrainyTiles is a pre-kindergarten learning app built for children ages 2–5. We take the privacy of children and their families extremely seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the steps we take to protect it.
This app is designed to be used by young children, often under parental supervision. Our core principle is simple: we collect the minimum information necessary to make the app work, and nothing more.
BrainyTiles does not show ads, does not sell data, and does not require children to create an account or provide any personal information to use the app.
02 — Children's Privacy
COPPA compliance
BrainyTiles is designed for children under the age of 13. We comply fully with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar privacy laws worldwide, including GDPR-K (EU) and CCPA (California).
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
- Children do not need to register, log in, or provide any personal details to use BrainyTiles.
- No child's name, photo, location, or contact information is ever requested or stored.
- If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without parental consent, we will delete it immediately.
If you believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will remove it promptly.
03 — Data We Collect
What we collect and why
BrainyTiles collects only the minimal data needed to provide a functioning learning experience. All data is stored locally on the device unless a parent explicitly enables sync.
- Learning progress: Which lessons have been completed, stars earned, and which areas need more practice. Stored locally on the device to personalize the experience and power the parent dashboard.
- Session data: Time spent in each learning area per session. Used only to display progress reports to parents — never sent to third-party analytics.
- App settings: Preferences such as audio volume and selected learning world. Stored locally on device only.
- Crash reports: If the app crashes, an anonymous crash report (no personal data, no device identifiers) may be sent to help us fix bugs.
04 — Data We Do NOT Collect
What we never collect
We want to be explicitly clear about what BrainyTiles does not do:
- We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any contact information.
- We do not collect location data, GPS coordinates, or IP addresses tied to individual users.
- We do not access the device camera, microphone, or photo library.
- We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or behavioral advertising.
- We do not track children across apps or websites.
- We do not collect biometric data of any kind.
- We do not share data with data brokers or marketing companies.
BrainyTiles contains zero ads. The free tier gives full access to Levels 1 & 2. An optional BrainyTiles Pro upgrade unlocks all 31 activities — available as a monthly subscription, annual subscription, or one-time lifetime purchase. There is no advertising, no tracking, and no data sold to third parties.
05 — Parent Dashboard
How the parent dashboard works
BrainyTiles includes a parent dashboard that shows learning progress, time spent, and areas where your child may need more practice. This feature is designed with privacy in mind:
- The parent dashboard is protected by a PIN that only the parent sets — children cannot access it.
- All progress data displayed in the dashboard is stored locally on your device by default.
- No progress data is sent to our servers unless you explicitly choose to enable cloud sync (if available).
- Deleting the app removes all locally stored data permanently.
06 — Third-Party Services
Third-party services we use
BrainyTiles uses a minimal set of third-party services, all chosen for their privacy-friendly practices:
- Apple App Store: Distribution platform. Apple's privacy practices govern any data collected during app download. We do not receive any personally identifiable information from Apple about users.
- Anonymous crash reporting: We may use a privacy-focused crash reporting tool that collects only anonymous device-type and OS version data to help fix bugs. No personal identifiers are included.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, or any advertising or tracking SDK.
07 — Data Security
How we protect data
Because BrainyTiles stores data locally on your device, the security of that data is protected by your device's built-in security — including device encryption, passcode/biometric locks, and Apple's iOS sandboxing. We never transmit sensitive data over the network.
- All data is stored within the app's sandboxed container, inaccessible to other apps.
- We follow Apple's App Store security guidelines and platform best practices.
- Any future network transmission (e.g., optional cloud sync) will use TLS encryption.
08 — Data Retention
How long we keep data
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you are in full control of retention.
- Data persists on the device as long as the app is installed.
- Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data permanently.
- You can reset all progress from within the app's parent dashboard at any time.
- Anonymous crash reports, if sent, are retained for up to 90 days for debugging purposes only.
09 — Parental Rights
Your rights as a parent or guardian
Under COPPA and applicable privacy laws, parents and guardians have the right to:
- Review any personal information collected about their child.
- Delete any personal information we hold about their child.
- Refuse to permit further collection or use of their child's information.
- Withdraw consent at any time by contacting us or deleting the app.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
10 — Changes to This Policy
How we handle policy updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Notify users via an in-app notice on the next launch after the update.
- For changes involving children's data, we will seek fresh parental consent where required by law.
Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use and uninstall the app.
